Lola’s 7 Top Interior Trends to Follow for 2024
Top Style: Expressive elegance
This emerging trend for 2024 resonates with me, which was written about in the January edition of Living Etc. It's about how you feel when you walk into a room, triggering interest and surprise. It's a blend of historical luxury with contemporary individualism. It's not maximalist but not minimalist. Expressive elegance is a careful balance that doesn't shout; instead, it gently beckons you, inviting you to explore the depths of personal expression, creating a refined and intriguing atmosphere.
A place of sanctuary - We are all so much more aware of looking after ourselves, and the trend of creating spaces to do this is an essential element in self-care, whether it's your bedroom, bathroom or a quiet reading nook.
Painting the room in one colour - A monochromatic colour scheme looks cohesive and calming. It’s individual, cosy and inviting.
Scalloped shapes - A progression from the curved trend last year. We are seeing a trend growing in scalloped edging and shapes, and they will carry on being big in 2024.
Textured wallpapers - We have become brave in using colour, but it is now time to bring more texture into our homes, and wallpaper is a fantastic way to soften a wall instantly, bringing a tactile and warm feel to the room.
Texture, texture and more texture! - the more tactile, the better. Be more adventurous in your choice of materials and fabrics. Use velvet, boucle, cork, colour, and texture! A warm blush pink wool boucle armchair is heavenly to snuggle into or add a mink cotton corduroy cushion, excusing soft sophistication.
Elaborate headboards - Kit Kemp introduced us to fabulous fun headboards, and the trend has continued growing. Have fun with shape, height, patterns and trimmings.
Glammed-up picture frames - Picture frames are becoming more readily available in many shapes and colours and with extra accessories and materials such as with bobbins on, in rattan or with scalloped edges. Have you tried making a gallery wall yet? Using quirky picture frames adds an extra element of individuality and style.
