How to use your artwork to inspire your interior colour palette.

Paintings like furniture and soft furnishings add personality and narrate the story of your home. Consider colour harmony, material contrast, and cohesion to create a unified look.

This living room mood board was inspired by the beautiful painting by Tipperleyhill, ‘Moonlit Lake’ Acrylic on canvas 43 x 43cm.

With your design style in mind, focus on the space and its intended use to help you begin your research. Pick a palette of 3-4 colours and decide if you want the walls painted in a muted colour like Lick paint Pink 04, using the other stronger colours for furniture, accents and soft furnishings. Alternatively, you could switch it around and use a rich colour like the striking Purple 03 to create a bold, sophisticated look and use the other muted colours in your soft furnishings. Colour should be used with purpose, whether to enhance, blend or compliment.

Visual representation

Another helpful way of looking at your painting within the space to see the colour groups is to use a creative app like Canva. Take a photo of the room and the artwork, then insert them onto Canva and position the artwork in a place where you can see how the colours work within the space giving you a great visual representation of the colours and the light.
